VICE President Mohammed Namadi Sambo has appealed to Nigerians to live in peace and eschew all bitterness in order for the country to achieve greatness.

He made the call yesterday during the Juma’at Prayer to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations at the National Mosque, Abuja. Sambo said “we are at a challenging period in this country, where we all need to put our hands on deck in ensuring that we live peacefully with each other.”

He used the occasion to pray to Almighty Allah for peace to continue to reign in the country, noting that peace is necessary for development to thrive. He also called on Nigerians to cooperate with the security agencies as they carry out their herculean task of protecting the lives a property of the citizens.

Sambo, while commending the security forces for their untiring efforts at ensuring security in the country, said “the Armed Forces, the para-military, including all Nigerians have the responsibility for ensuring peace.”

The Vice President assured that the administration would never inflict pains on Nigerians, noting that the President Goodluck Jonathan administration was popularly elected by all Nigerians.  He expressed optimism that the impasse over the fuel subsidy issue would soon be resolved. “There is great hope for this country, as you are aware, just yesterday, we had dialogue with labour and Insha Allah, with the guidance of Almighty Allah and our prayers it will soon be resolved,” he said.

The Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Ustaz Musa Mohammed, offered special prayers for the repose of the souls of those gallant officers that died in the course of their duties and also for the good health of the surviving ex-servicemen.
